Moscow: Love/Hate Relationship...

Moscow - A Love/Hate Relationship ....

- crowded, dirty, smelly, polluted, and expensive.

Moscow - architecturally beautiful, rich, magnificent, lively, historical, colourful....

Take your pick, it's got it all.

Having experienced the flip side of both coins this week, give me rural any time. In my life I have visited Moscow a few dozen times. I use to live in Moscow for some period of time as well. My grandma was from Moscow and everyone from my fathers side of family as well. But this is is a different story.... I first visited Moscow in my teens, some ... years ago. It's a different city than it was then, or maybe I'm just different. Whatever the reason, it has lost it's allure for me. I would not be sad if this were my last. I love Russia don't get me wrong, but noise, crime, all the smells melding together .... like any big metropolitan city.

My husband would like to spend a month here and after one week of FABULOUS romps around town, I decided it is a city to visit, not live in for long time. A week is plenty of time for me.

Moscow is also a wonderful place to visit for a certain time, to soak up the MAGIC (whatever that may be for each person) but country living, that's for me too!

  1. Hello Lana,
I've never visited Russia before. I'm sure Moscow has some amazing sights! I live in the country now, but I'm a big city girl at heart :)

    1. I love the both country and cities for completely two different reasons. Every time I travel to big cities like London, Paris, New York, Moscow, Prague...I love it but after a week start feeling I need space and can't wait to go back to my country "sanctuary" and back to my studio. I know for sure I need to travel to get inspired and also I need time to reflect on it all and let those moments grow on me. Actually, I love to see my pictures after the trip - it's funny how you see more afterwards than during the event ... lol.

    1. Thanks Marieken! When I see something I love, I cannot form words. My pulse quickens, I reach for my phone to snap pictures, then I have a very serious expression as I give the place I'm smitten with a moment of appreciative silence. Check out my picture as I look on the Kremlin wall from Basil's Cathedral in Red Square ... lol

  4. Your photos are intriguing! I've never been to Moscow, but in general I love big cities. I live in the country now and I have to admit it has been a difficult adjustment. I guess I miss the culture and pace of the city.

  7. Yes, Moscow is one of most expensive cities now...and I tell you IT IS! Bottle of water there cost 10-12USD in restaurants! I was thirsty there most of the time:)

  8. I've never been to Russia. I imagine it has some amazing sights and I'd love to visit. Your images are great. Cities are fun but I prefer to live more quietly and surrounded by the beauty of nature, preferably near the ocean.
